Below we will outline what’s involved during your apprenticeship training.
Class A Curriculum
Between the classroom and practical, hands-on training, your journey will encompass the following:
Classroom Study
Before getting behind the wheel, you will learn basic operations, orientation, control systems and basic control among many other topics.
Behind-the-Wheel-Range
Your first practical, hands-on experience. You will begin to apply your classroom training in a controlled environment.
Behind-the-Wheel-Public
Hit the road in your first public drive. It will consist of a combination of rural, city, and highway driving with an emphasis on lessons learned from the classroom.
Passenger Endorsement Theory
Here you will learn post-crash procedures, other emergency procedures, vehicle orientation, fueling, idling, baggage and/or cargo management, as well as passenger management among a plethora of other topics.
Passenger Endorsement Behind-the-Wheel Range and Public Road
We will apply lessons learned from the previous block of instruction in a practical, hands-on setting.

Orientation: completion of applicable forms and review of program policies and expectations | 1 Hour |
CDL Packet: review combination vehicle, tanker, doubles and triples and hazmat tests | 9 Hours |
Pre-trip Inspection: all phases of pre-trip including brake adjustments and cargo securement. This will be a recurring daily event. | 24 Hours |
Classroom Study: control systems, vehicle systems, basic control, shifting, backing, preventive maintenance, communication, space management, speed management, night driving, extreme conditions, skid control, hazard awareness, railroad crossings, accident procedures, cargo handling, hazmat. | 40 Hours |
Logbooks: students will learn hours of service regulations and will complete 3 simulated trips | 10 Hours |
Vehicle Maneuverability: shifting, straight line backing, parallel parking, right turn, reverse lane change, alley dock | 50 Hours |
Driving: combination of rural, city and highway driving with emphasis on lessons from classroom and cargo securement. | 20 Hours |
Problem Areas: this time allotment is for any problem areas the student needs extra help with | 10 Hours |
